Everyday is a New day

A few years ago, I visited a jail for a research. I met a man convicted of murder serving a life sentence. He told me he was very shy and introvert, and enjoyed a very good reputation in the neighborhood. Murder was beyond his imagination. However, one day some body ruined his life by making him do his act.

I thought someone must have forced him to do this. To my surprise he said, ''No, No! That is not what I mean. Nobody forced me to murder. I did it myself. But you see,  that.............(swearing), made me kill him''. I became more curious. He said that one day he was standing outside his home. He saw his sister coming back from college.

He heard a couple of young men laugh. He thought they were teasing her sister.  He rushed inside the house, brought a big knife and rushed to them.  When her sister saw her brother rushing to the boys with a big knife in his hand, she screamed at him to tell him they did not laugh at her. He did not listen to her, caught one of the boys and killed him. Other two escaped.

Asked how he felt about it, he said, Well, I realized that the sister I loved and protected to the extent that i could not stand anyone looking to her, is now suffering because of me. No one wants to marry her because she is sister of a killer.
She visits me twice a month and now hundreds of people see her here and I cannot  do anything about it''. He said, ''But you see her here and I cannot do anything about it''. He said, But you see, it was not my fault. My neighbors are witness to my nobility. It is all fate. I asked him if he truly believed that the only option he had was to kill the boy.

He said, ''sometimes, I think I could have avoided it, but I don't know.'' This is a typical case of responsibility and putting the blame on others. What we don't realize is that ''it is not what others do to us (action), but rather what we do with what others do to us (our reaction). Which determines the outcome of our lives.

''Mankind will not perish till they make

  excuses for their conduct to

  themselves.(prophet Muhammad (PBUH)''.
