Who is Driving your Life?
Last year, in one of my graduate classes, I asked students as to how many of them were pursuing MBA degree by choice. More than 76 percent of them said that some family elder had told them to do it. You could well imagine the results this type of students would produce. They did not own what they were doing it for others every time they failed to produce good results, they had a readymade excuse. ''You told me to do it''. ''I was not interested in it''. When I asked them what they wanted to do in their lives, with the exception of a few, they had no answer.
You are driving a car, looking very confident, sure of where you are heading and not violating traffic rules. No one will offer you help and try influence you as long as you know what you are doing. People can look to you, stop you and ask for your help but will never offer you help for you do not need any.
You are driving zigzag, looking sideways trying to read street signs or have a flat tire. Many people will offer you help for your actions suggest you have lost track and require it. Some people may hand out pieces of advice or blurt out taunts.
So, if you are in control of Life, you will inspire others to learn from you and seek your advice. However, if you refuse to sit in the driving seat of your life, you will invite others to influence your Life.
